Practical, Sensible, and Authentic

Our philosophy is simple, provide practical, sensible, and authentic solutions to create space. To that end, our parts need to be durable and transportable, because who knows where you are going to be five or ten years from now? It’s furniture that will stick with you, no matter where your next adventure takes you.

Baltic Birch Plywood

A native plant of Northeast Europe, Baltic Birch has recently become a popular choice in woodworking due to its durability and look. Unlike other plywoods, Baltic Birch plywood has a void-free core, which means it holds screws better and is less prone to warping. Finally, its look allowed us to leave exposed edges without compromising design, and simply finish our pieces with lacquer.

Solid Ash Hardwood

Ash is native to the Eastern United States. It’s a tough, inelastic, hardwood that, because of its properties, is also used in sporting goods such as baseball bats and pool cues. We chose it for our load-bearing parts to ensure they will last up to 10-15 years.

Powder-Coated Steel

Steel is used widely in furniture and other consumer goods for its strength and relative low cost. Our steel pieces are powder coated to add an impermeable layer that greatly reduces the chances of scratching, staining, and general wear and tear.

Our cushions have two layers: one inch of memory foam, and 5 inches of polyurethane. The memory foam contours the body, ensuring that its weight is evenly distributed, rather than creating focused pressure points. Polyurethane serves as support material for the memory foam.

Our pillows are filled with polyester fiber batting, which is a water-repellant material that will hold its shape even after extended use. It’s also a very popular and affordable material, which helped reduce the price point of the Felix Family’s upholstered items.

Our Slipcovers are also made of polyester, which is washable, durable, and water-repellant. Additionally, this material performs better in abrasion testing compared to other linen and standard olefin.
